Fashion Colors Inside the Lines

Put down your Hermes, kick back in your sling-back Louboutin’s and grab your Crayolas! We love British designer and illustrator Mel Simone Elliot’s “Colour Me Good” series of high fashion coloring books.  “I’ve always loved coloring in,” Elliott tells FashionETC.com, “I don’t think we should stop just because we’ve grown up. Fashion Industry Rallies For A Cause

As the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan continue to cause widespread devastation, we love to see fashion corporations and icons come together and contribute to the disaster relief. Through the month of April, the Natori Company is donating 10% of all sales on Natori.com and JosiebyNatori.com to The Red Cross’ humanitarian efforts in Japan.

Many others are making similar charitable contributions. The Gap donated $200,000 and $1.1 million worth of clothing to Global Giving’s Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. Nepenthes menswear boutique is hosting a sample sale with all the proceeds going to humanitarian aid in Japan. Fashion icon Lady Gaga raised $250,000 through the sale of “We Pray for Japan” wristbands on her website. Fast Retailing, owner of Theory, Uniqlo and Comptoir des Cotonniers, is planning to donate over 1 billion yen in addition to millions of yen worth of clothing. Kohl’s made a $250,000 donation to the Japanese Red Cross and Levi’s is contributing $50,000 to the International Red Cross.

We encourage everyone to provide additional support to The Red Cross at Redcross.org.

Fashion Fairy Tales by Camilla Morton

London-based fashion journalist Camilla Morton published a new book this month entitled “Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty.” This fairy-tale memoir merges fashion fact with fiction, offering a new take on the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty with the life of Christain Lacroix woven in. The whimsical story is supplemented by intricate couture inspired illustrations. The book is the first in a series of four, with the elves and the shoe maker story of Manolo Blahnik hitting shelves this fall followed by stories of John Galliano and Diane von Furstenberg.

Morton is known for her previous novels including a comedic instruction manual for navigating the hazards of modern life, “How to Walk in High Heels: The Girl’s Guide to Everything.” She tackles everything from climbing out of a car in a mini skirt to gracefully cracking a lobster in a restaurant with useful tidbits from experts like Gisele Bundchen’s and Manolo Blahnik’s tips. Morton’s imaginative practicality makes her books must-reads!

High Tech Meets High Fashion

In the past decade, we’ve witnessed extraordinary technological advancements in every aspect of our lives: social networking, smart phones and the iPad are just a few. In fashion we strive to find creative ways to utilize these new capabilities. Recently, New York City witnessed an array of imaginative intersections of the digital and fashion worlds.

In August, Target lit up the Standard Hotel with their Kaleidoscope Fashion Spectacular showcasing their fall collection. Viewers were awed by the synchronized light show emanating from 155 hotel windows with 66 choreographed dancers. Just last week, Ralph Lauren raised the bar with their celebration of 10 years of digital innovation. The “4-D” presentation at the Madison Avenue flagship store captivated with a phenomenal laser projected show supplemented by the fourth dimension—the lingering scent of their new Pony fragrance. These impressive fashion forays are only the beginning of digital ingenuity and we are excited to see what the future holds for the union of fashion and technology!

Singing her praises- Jane Lynch on the cover of More Magazine!

There’s nothing else like it on television! This musical comedy has become a pop culture phenomenon with millions of song downloads every week and 19 Emmy nominations. So it’s no surprise we are part of the GLEEk craze! We love tuning in to watch the students of McKinley High navigate their dramatic high school lives while striving for musical success in their competitive glee club. As much as we love them, the standout performance we can’t get enough of is villainous cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch). Taking home the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress, Lynch’s quick-witted remarks and matching track suits keep us coming back for more! Check out the November Issue of More Magazine, where Lynch channels her GLEE character, flaunting her ferocious side in a stunning Josie Natori caftan!

Slumber Party

Whether you’re 13 or 31 a girl’s night in never gets old! Nothing beats watching a classic movie and some Ben & Jerry’s while relaxing with close friends. And in true Natori fashion, we always like to look the part. Sometimes it’s relaxing in a classic pair of cotton Essence PJ’s. Other times it’s feeling glamorous in a silky chemise with lacey accents. Martha Stewart showed off her slumber party style on her show this Thursday, decked out in the Natori Himalaya PJ paired with Manolo Blahnik sling-backs! So do as Martha does; dress to fit your mood and de-stress with a Natori slumber party.

Animal Instincts

As the fall season progresses, it seems leopard is the new king of the jungle—the fashion jungle, that is. Bold animal prints and brave fur, calf and leather textures have made their way from the runway to the streets.  For this trend, a little goes a long way.  We love mixing animal inspired accent pieces into our wardrobe for sophisticated style. Spice up your basic work attire with leopard pumps; throw on a fur vest with jeans for a casual look; wear a sexy Josie Natori safari tank for a night on the town.

Amazing Grace

For years she has been gracing us with her unparalleled sense of style, so we were thrilled to hear that Vogue’s Creative Director, Grace Coddington, is potentially penning an autobiography about her life in fashion. Ever since watching her genius in the documentary The September Issue, we have been intrigued by her and her dynamic working alongside Editor in Chief Anna Wintour. As the creative leader behind what has been coined the “Fashion Bible” (and quite the character in her own right), we’re expecting a candid take on her life as a model turned editor carving her niche in the ever-changing fashion industry.
