Animal Instincts

As the fall season progresses, it seems leopard is the new king of the jungle—the fashion jungle, that is. Bold animal prints and brave fur, calf and leather textures have made their way from the runway to the streets.  For this trend, a little goes a long way.  We love mixing animal inspired accent pieces into our wardrobe for sophisticated style. Spice up your basic work attire with leopard pumps; throw on a fur vest with jeans for a casual look; wear a sexy Josie Natori safari tank for a night on the town.

Amazing Grace

For years she has been gracing us with her unparalleled sense of style, so we were thrilled to hear that Vogue’s Creative Director, Grace Coddington, is potentially penning an autobiography about her life in fashion. Ever since watching her genius in the documentary The September Issue, we have been intrigued by her and her dynamic working alongside Editor in Chief Anna Wintour. As the creative leader behind what has been coined the “Fashion Bible” (and quite the character in her own right), we’re expecting a candid take on her life as a model turned editor carving her niche in the ever-changing fashion industry.

Must See: Easy A

An intelligent high school movie is hard to come by but this fall Easy A scores a high mark. A clever take on showcasing ostracism during high school, it’s The Scarlet Letter meets Mean Girls. When one bad rumor mushrooms and leads to a scandalous reputation, Olive (referenced as the modern day Hester Prynne) decides to become what the rumors say she is. So the flaunting of lingerie as clothing with the prerequisite scarlet “A” begins. It’s cute yet poignant, and with a happy ending of course. You might have seen this one coming but, Easy A makes the grade!

Spring has sprung

Fall has just begun but there’s already a little spring in our step: fashion week spring 2011 collections are arriving this Thursday- the first day of New York Fashion Week. The iconic week comes but twice a year and the buzz of the next breakthrough in high fashion has us on the edge of our seats.

This Friday September 10th Josie Natori will debut her Spring 2011 ready-to-wear collection. Inspired by the ease and beauty of the Balinese lifestyle, the collection is an experience of the heritage and culture of the region. Like the Spring festival celebrations, it engages the senses with color, movement and energy, featuring large scale florals, painterly touches and flowing fabrics. Indulging in hand crafted artisan jewelry adds a bold statement. Be sure to check back after our show to hear what the editors had to say and get a sneak peak of a few of our favorite styles!

Target keeps dishing it out: another inspired design collaboration!

If John Derian’s famed decoupage dishes, sold in the likes of Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, are a sign of what’s to come with his new Target collection, expect us to be eagerly waiting outside those sliding doors on September 5th.  With a vintage aesthetic and dreamy appeal, his coveted dishes that normally retail for upwards of $100.00 will start at just $1.99.

Fork, knife and spoon plate: one of Derian’s satisfyingly kitschy designs for the upcoming limited edition Target collection.

Right on Target

The retail giant has its target in site: Manhattan.  Now for the first time, NYC has its very own Target store. For years we’ve seen their ads on the Times Square megatron, read about their designer collaborations and heard whisperings of a possible Manhattan store opening- but to no avail. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as getting that belated birthday card, organic groceries and your designer fashion fix all at the same place. Now Manhattanites can have the brick and mortar experience that they’ve been craving. Target hit the bulls eye- where 117th street meets the FDR.

We cannot help but HARP on this one- Josie Natori in Harpers Bazaar

Featuring Jen Aniston on the cover with an eerie resemblance to Barbara Streisand, Harper’s pays tribute to the famous songstress.  How did Harper’s make their September issue stand apart from others? They managed to feature not one but two iconic women in a single shot. And we couldn’t be happier to be part of this special issue.
