Permanent Link to New York City Gets In Tune

New York City Gets In Tune

The streets of New York City have been invaded by…pianos! For the next two weeks, you can tickle the ivories all over the city at famous landmarks like Bryant Park, Herald Square and Lincoln Center. The pianos come from an art installation developed by British artist Luke Jerram. They’ve been touring the world for the past two years- first U.S. stop, New York City!

There are a total of 60 pianos on display but they won’t be around long, so go face the music and start playing…or simply listen along! As a concert pianist, we would love to see Josie Natori play- our location pick for Josie: the Central Park Bandshell.

Pickpocket

If what you carry in your handbag says a lot about you, then the male equivalent is what he carries in his pockets. The Dossier Journal investigates the pockets of some prominent New York men and the things that define them- including our very own Ken Natori, Vice President of Finance for the Natori Company. What they found? 4 metro cards, a sonogram and pocket square (among other things). What does all that add up to for Ken? Well, we’re not quite sure, but we know he’ll never be stranded in New York City.

Coach Collectibles

Seashells, stamps and snow globes are fine collector’s items but when it comes to things to collect, we couldn’t agree more with Coach- handbags are the way to go! Coach collaborated with four noteworthy bloggers to create 4 limited edition Collectible bags. And you won’t be let down by the results- Kelly, Karla, Emily and Krystal gave us a taste of their stellar style and we hope it’s just the beginning! Tonight you can meet the 4 blogger/designers at the Coach Madison Avenue store from 5:00-7:00pm. And best of all- The Glamourai’s Kelly Framel will be donning a custom Natori dress that she created alongside designer Josie Natori for the launch. If you love the dress, you’ll have the chance to win it at an Ebay auction Kelly is holding under “The_Glamourai” after the event. Proceeds will benefit Women In Need, an incredible organization that helps homeless women and children get back on their feet. Stay tuned for auction details!

Bloggers Turned Designers

Coach’s most recent guest designers? No, they’re not the newest crop of up and coming designers and they’re not a group of absurdly talented students from the Fashion Institute. They’re bloggers!  It’s a new world where bloggers are being tapped to attend launch parties, fashion shows and even design capsule collections for luxury brands. Case in point: Coach’s collection of bags designed by 4 top fashion bloggers. We love the “hip” factor these bloggers imbued into Coach’s otherwise classic, pretty bags. Noteworthy design: Kelly Framel of The Glamourai. Her leather drawstring pouch has a faux croc texture and that shade of grey we just can’t get enough of!

Backward Thinking

Designers take a look back at what makes them great

Backward thought might not always a bad thing. In this case, the fashion industry is looking back to their roots- each brand tapping into their heritage and playing up what they’re best at. They’re taking a cue from the first designs that put them on the map- Dolce & Gabbana’s precise tailoring, Missoni’s intricate knits and Cavalli’s elaborate prints. For Natori, it’s complex embroidery and attention to detail. And after years of varying trends, we love how new an old look can feel.

Natori Flashback:

She was one of “The Big Six”, hosted MTV’s House of Style and has an iconic beauty mark above the corner of her lip- she’s Cindy Crawford.  Alongside the other original supermodels, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer, Cindy is one of the few models in the world who can truly call herself “Super”. These 6 are rightfully recognized within the fashion industry as deserving of the title “Supermodel”. And while many models like Twiggy and Elle McPherson paved the way for the era of the supermodel, and models like Gisele Bundchen and Karolina Kurkova have followed, the term “supermodel” really belongs to a phenomenon that began in the 80’s and lasted through the 90’s.

Check out Ms. Crawford donning Natori on the cover of Cosmopolitan’s March 1991 issue!
